The gizzard dish came to be popular since a cook tried frying the gizzard and earned a great reputation among fans of food. That marked the start of the gizzard dish.

The tasty and affordable gizzard dish gained instant popularity among laborers. Accordingly, the selling competition was fiercer thus “gizzard street” was created in the marketplace.

Today there are more than 40 famous gizzard restaurants in the Pyong-hwa marketplace. The popularity is beyond the generation: not only older people sharing the history but also youths finding it interesting and delicious visit the street constantly.

Gyeong-sang Gam-young was the provincial governor’s office founded back in 1601 which played a pivotal role in leading the Gyeong-sang province. Dae-gu became more influential since its establishment and over time it renewed itself as a place for the residents.

The governor was in a powerful position responsible not only for administration but also military control. Working offices and residences still remain along with their past dignity and history. The building was used as the North Gyeong-sang provincial government office for a long time before re-opening as a park in 1970. Since then, it has been known as a historic park holding the cultural heritage of the Chosun Dynasty.

Gyeong-sang Gam-young is located around Jong-no, which has been the central avenue in the city since the early ages.

Jong-no borders on Yak-jun street, which is a special district for oriental medicine and continues the fame of the wholesale medicinal market in the Chosun Dynasty. The district is the only one of its kind across the nation.

Yak-jun street includes more than 350 oriental medicine retailers and you can smell the herbs all the time on the street. Every early May, the city welcomes visitors from all across the country to the Dae-gu Yang-nyeong-si Herb Medicine Festival.

Dal-sung Park is known as a zoo and let me explain the origin of the word ‘Dal-sung.’ Dal-sung was once a fortress located at the center of an old nation named ‘Dal-gu-bul.’

In the era of the Three Kingdoms, the area received such a splendid ancient tomb culture introduced by Silla, one of the three kingdoms. During the Koryo Dynasty, it was the village of Dal-sung Seo clan. In the Chosun dynasty, the then provincial governor stayed there for a while.

Since the park's foundation in 1905, it has remained as one of the most time-honored resting places for the residents holding over 2,000 years of history and tradition.

A zoo, learning room of local history and Gwan-poong Tower stand inside the well-managed park along with the fortress. You can also see several monuments including a statue of Je-woo Choi, the peasant revolution leader, a memorial stone for children, and a monument engraved with a poem written by Sang-hwa Lee.

Samsung Store

One small wooden building was established near Seo-mun (West gate) market, which was the former commercial hub in Dae-gu.

The building wielded a sign reading "Samsung Store". Samsung Group, the country’s popular company, originates from this small store.

Samsung’s case gives us a lesson that the mighty ocean is the result of the little drops combined.

Hot and spicy Moo-chim-hoe was created on the basis of a geological background. In the past, fresh fish was hard to be shipped to this area because it was located in an inland area. To preserve fish longer people seasoned them. Now it has become a special dish of Dae-gu.

Let me briefly explain the recipe. First, boil seafood like squid and Asian rapa whelk. Mix vegetables like cut radish and water celery with cut raw sea eel and boiled seafood. Put fresh ingredients like minced garlic and ginger adding some hot pepper powder.

The dish is popular among boys and girls of all ages as it looks plentiful, delicious, and inexpensive. There is a special street for the dish near Ban-go-gae in Nae-dang dong.

E-World is the new name of Woo-bang Tower Land that opened in 1995.

This is a mega complex theme park of 27,000 ㎡ and you are able to look over the entire view of the city from an 83-story tower located at an altitude of 312m.

The European style theme park offers more than 30 exciting attractions, fun performances occurring on a regular basis, a night-time cherry blossom festival in April and a lot of romantic fantasy events.

Since the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the former market was seeking a total new look to grab another opportunity to come alive.

All walks of life are welcomed to take an easy time here. This street has become very popular among youths and was selected as one of the nation’s top five food districts by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In order to attract more visitors, business owners changed shop appearances and refurbished hygiene-related facilities and equipment to be cleaner and tidier. Now you can enjoy such delicious food in a safer and cleaner environment.

Ab-san Cafe Street

The Ab-san Cafe Street is full of exotic cafes and restaurants and is getting more popular as a new visiting spot. You will continue to find 30 or more interesting unique places such as gallery-like cafes and remodeled restaurants from private houses. This street has been reshaped in 2012 along with the foot of Ab-san as an eco-friendly special district. The visit here would definitely give you an unforgettable memory.

Ab-san Observatory

This destination is an observatory where you can look over the entire city. Ab-san is familiar to the residents for it originating from Biseul mountain.

There are a lot of temples including An-il-sa related to the founder of the Koryo Dynasty and historical sites. It also has a horse-riding course, war memorial and juvenile training center. This is a natural park located in the city.

The hiking trail is well established to take you to the top in two to three hours where you can look over the entire city from a cable car.

Soo-sung Pond is an amusement park located downtown. It has been designated by the city government as the street of beautiful fallen leaves.

You will find more than 18,000 beautiful trees blossoming flowers including a local willow designated as a natural heritage along the way of the boardwalk reaching 880m in length. You will also embrace nature while riding a boat.

This place boasts the nation’s largest musical water fountain installed in 2007 demonstrating a fantastic water screen, foggy fountain and laser shows. It is also famous for good cafes, restaurants and convenient amenities. In the nearby Soo-sung Land you can use various amusement facilities.

There is the Deul-an-gil gourmet town near Soo-sung Pond providing the best dishes and interior designs. Besides you don’t have to worry about parking as 160 or so restaurants have spacious parking lots.

Deul-an-gil was the inspiration for a famous Korean poem titled "Whether Spring Taken Away Comes" written by poet Sang-hwa Lee.

In the early 1990s, restaurant owners had a headache about not enough parking lots and rushed to Deul-an-gil for wider space. That marked the start of the gourmet town.

In May 1977, there was a special fundraising event.

The purpose was to build a place to get children to freely play and run in a safe environment and offer a learning area for studying science where all family members can join in together.

Finally, in Nov. 15, 1983, the Dae-gu Children Center opened through the fundraising campaign drawing one million participants.

The Dae-gu Children Center consists of a main building called Kkum-noori-gwan, a detached theater building and outdoor facilities. This center offers a place for play and experiment science, and a cultural art experience to children so that they can nurture their own hopes and dreams.

This street was created to remember Mr. Kim who was born in Daebong-dong in Dae-gu. The length of this street is 90m in length and the size became bigger supported by art projects. With the help of the booming creative energy of Kim Gwang-suk Street, a nearby market called Bang-cheon is also getting revitalized.

On the street where there are paintings of Kim, you will hear the songs sung by the singer.

It has become very popular as the street was busy with more than 5,000 visitors on the weekends.
